Ticknick Park, Dublin

Dublin, Ireland

Clive Richardson Limited were engaged as a specialist sportsground contractor to construct four natural grass sports pitches in Ticknick Park which is part of a substantial greenfield site development project in the Cherrywood area of Dublin.

The parkland development which began in 2016 will feature three new public parks (Tully, Ticknick & Beckett) over 82 acres; it will be planted with over 3000 mature trees and will include sports fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, outdoor gyms and walking tracks

Primarily intended to provide more formal recreational amenities, the Ticknick Park part of the development will have five sports pitches, with paths and walking routes around the perimeter for jogging and training. Existing mature trees and hedgerows will be protected and retained, with discreet car parking adjacent to the playing areas.

CRL removed the existing topsoil, set aside for reuse, and graded the subbase to the required levels. A comprehensive new drainage system was then installed across the site. The topsoil was then re-spread across the pitches, cultivated and laser graded. A 50mm layer of Wexford sand was then ameliorated into the topsoil before gravel slits were installed. After final grading a 10mm layer of Wexford sand was added before seeding and fertilisation. The four sand carpet pitches will cater for Football, GAA and Rugby.

CRL undertook the grow-in maintenance of the pitches for a period of 12 months following practical completion. This included regular cutting, watering, fertilising, sand topdressing and aeration as required.
